What is Boat Dip?

Think of a seven layer dip without the layers! Basics like sour cream, cheddar cheese, corn, and tomatoes are mixed with cool ranch and zesty taco seasonings. This is definitely a “double up” recipe and you’ll love how easy it is to make!

A Delicious Dip!

  • Zero prep. Just mix, chill, and serve!
  • The TikTok creator is seen enjoying boat dip on a boat (hence the name), but you can enjoy it poolside, at picnics, parties, or anywhere!
  • This recipe is super versatile with room for adding extras to create your own signature boat dip!

Ingredients and Variations

Sour Cream: Full-fat sour cream delivers an extra creamy consistency, but you can make a “skinny” version and use fat-free sour cream if you like. Half sour cream and half Greek yogurt produce a tangier dip with some extra nutrients as well. Full Greek yogurt will work too.

Cheese: Cheddar cheese, a Mexican blend, Monterey Jack, or a combination of any of these will add extra cheesy flavor to boat dip!

Tomatoes: Rotel tomatoes, one of my very favorites, come pre-seasoned with some green chiles added to save time and add a punch of spicy flavor to boat dip. Feel free to add a dash of hot sauce, if you like.

Seasonings: Use packaged taco seasoning or make your own so you can adjust the amounts to suit your tastes. Even ranch seasoning is super easy to make!

Variations: Boat dip is great for using up leftover cooked ground beef or shredded chicken. Sliced black olives, jalapenos, green chiles, and even chopped spinach or kale will add extra flavor and a pop of nutrition. Use what you have!

How to Make Boat Dip

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Chill at least 2 hours before serving.

Garnish with a sprig of fresh dill, parsley, or cilantro.

Scoop it Up With

  • Boat dip works perfectly with carrot and celery sticks or rounds of zucchini and cucumber. It can even be scooped into hollowed-out tomatoes for a fun presentation!
  • Tortilla chips, potato chips, crackers, and thick slices of bread (like French, sourdough, rye OR homemade) work great, too! Use up any leftover crostini.
  • Scoop up boat dip with homemade quesadillas or add a little bit to ground beef or steak tacos.

Got Leftovers?

Leftovers can be used in some of your favorite recipes!

  • Heat the dip up (a la Velveeta Rotel dip style) and serve with tortilla chips or cut fresh tortillas.
  • Cook your favorite pasta, and add warmed boat dip for a simple yet zesty mac & cheese.
  • Boat dip makes a great spread for hearty sandwiches, sliders, and wraps, too!
  • Use it to make a super easy, super tasty quesadilla!
  • Add warmed up dip to your favorite hot dog or burgers.

Storing Boat Dip

  • Keep leftover boat dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Give it a stir before serving.
  • Boat dip tastes better when made up to a day in advance so the seasonings can ‘bloom’ and add more flavor!
