Only 3 Ingredients

Bananas: Fresh and firm bananas without spots make the best frozen chocolate bananas. Save the older, softer bananas for banana bread or smoothies.

Chocolate: Choose high quality chocolate for the best flavor. Dark, white, semi-sweet, or even peanut butter morsels can all be used and allow for a colorful party experience. Pre-portioned candy melts are a real time-saver because they’re made for hardening, and you don’t need to blend them with oil or butter.

Coconut Oil: Look for ‘refined coconut oil’. This is the best oil to use since it’s odorless, and flavorless, blends quickly with the chocolate, and hardens quickly. Other oils will impart their flavor into the chocolate and will make the chocolate melt too quickly at room temperature.

Our Favorite Toppings

Anything goes on chocolate banana pops. Make a DIY dipping station and offer a selection of chopped peanuts, coconut, and cereal like Rice Krispies crushed Froot Loops, or Cap’n Crunch. Crushed Nutter Butter, Nilla Wafers, or Oreo cookies are a fun option, too. For a little extra nutrition, try some homemade granola, sunflower seeds, or chopped dried fruit like mangoes, cherries, or strawberries.

Brilliant Dipped Banana Tips

  • Pour chocolate into deep mason jars or a large coffee mug so the bananas can dip in a single move instead of rolling them in a pan or bowl.
  • For smaller snackers, cut bananas in half horizontally, vertically, in thirds, or dip thick slices (½ to 1”) in the melted chocolate, spread on parchment paper, and sprinkle on desired toppings.
  • Use white chocolate chips or candy melts with food coloring to make a rainbow of dipped bananas.

Save Some for Later?

Bananas can be prepped ahead with the stick (see Step 2) and frozen until ready to dip. This method is perfect for a fun activity, after school treat, or just last-minute snacking.

Keep leftover chocolate dipped bananas wrapped in plastic wrap, then zippered bags, and then freeze them for up to 3 weeks. Use leftover chocolate dip for homemade churros, or make into a fondue with mandarin orange segments, strawberries, and cubes of pound cake, or drizzle some over homemade rice Krispie squares.
