Bake up a giant, gooey chewy chocolate chip cookie in this pizookie recipe you will love.
Homemade pizookies only take a few ingredients and some chocolate chips that bake into a mouthwatering cookie with crispy edges and a melty, gooey center.
What’s a Pizookie?
Made famous by BJ’s restaurant chain, a Pizookie is a mashup of deep-dish pizza and chocolate chip cookies. They’re baked in a skillet, sliced into wedges, and served warm topped with ice cream.
Pizookies are a Family Favorite Because …
- Nothing beats a warm chocolate chip cookie from the oven.
- It is cooked until the edges are crispy and the interior is soft and chewy.
- I love the contrast between the warm cookie and a scoop of warm vanilla ice cream
- Baked in just one piece, they take the hard work out of making cookies.
Ingredients and Add-Ins
Cookie Dough: Pizookie ingredients are likely already in the pantry. It’s that simple. Short on time? No problem. Use ready-made cookie dough and press it in the skillet in Step 5. Other cookie dough flavors are peanut butter, sugar cookie, or cookies and cream.
Chocolate Chips: Chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch, or peanut butter chips will all work. Mini M&M’s, chopped Kit Kat bars, peanut butter cups, chopped nuts or even granola are also yummy options.
Pizookie Variations
- Make a S’mores pizookie by mixing mini marshmallows and crushed graham crackers covering the top of the baked pizookie. Place the pizookie under the broiler until the marshmallows are melted and golden on the top.
- Crush ‘Nilla wafers, Oreos, Nutter Butter cookies, or your favorite cereal and spread them across the top of the cookie dough in Step 5 for a whole new flavor.
How to Make a Pizookie
Easy Pizookies are a fun way to kick off family night!
- Cream butter and sugar, then the egg, and mix until combined (see recipe).
- Mix in dry ingredients and then chocolate chips.
- Spread dough in an 8” oven-safe skillet, cake pan, or cast-iron pan and bake until the center is set.
Pizookie Toppings
Whipped cream, ice cream, caramel sauce, or a dollop of grape or strawberry jam are yummy on pizookies. Or dunk pizookie chunks into a creamy shot for a boozy treat. Bake and cool a pizookie and then cover it with frosting and colorful sprinkles for a fun and unforgettable birthday treat.
Storing Pizookie
- Keep the leftover pizookie covered or in a Stasher Bag at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for several days.
- Discard any cookie that was covered in ice cream or whipped cream. Enjoy as is or reheat portions in the microwave.
- Slice and freeze individual portions wrapped in plastic and zippered bags for up to two months. Pop one or two slices into a backpack or briefcase and they’ll be thawed by lunchtime.
