Ingredients and Variations

Crust: Like it crispy or chewy? Pre-made pizza dough lets you roll it out as thin or thick as you like! Any store-bought brand will do, or DIY your own easy dough and freeze some for later.

Chicken: Rotisserie chicken and leftover chicken make this easy recipe ready to go! Even leftover turkey, pork, or leftover Buffalo wings can be used to top a BBQ chicken pizza!

Cheese: Pizza doesn’t work without cheese! Grate blocks yourself if you can because pre-shredded cheese has chemicals that keep it from melting as well as it could.

Toppings: Go for it! How about pepperoncini peppers, bacon bits, crumbled goat cheese, or even leftover veggies give this pizza a new twist every time!

Variations: This recipe is all about the BBQ flavor! Make your own BBQ sauce that’s mild or spicy as you like! Add veggies like chopped spinach or kale for some green nutrients. Or top your pizza with bacon bits, leftover grilled veggies make for a great pizza pie!

How to Make BBQ Chicken Pizza

Quick and easy, why order out?

  1. Preheat a pizza stone in the oven to 500°F.
  2. Prep pizza dough as desired (thick or thin) and spread BBQ sauce over the top (as described in the recipe below).
  3. Add chicken and cheeses. Top with bell pepper and onion.
  4. Slide pizza onto the pizza stone and bake until golden.

Garnish with extra sliced green onions and serve.

Pro Tip:

Cover as much BBQ sauce with the cheese. BBQ sauce will darken, or look burned due to the sugar caramelizing with the hot temperatures, and might not look as appetizing as it is!

Tips and Tricks for Perfect Pizza

Keep your pizza perfect by storing it in the refrigerator in a zippered bag. For best results, reheat pizza with any of these methods:

  • In the Air Fryer: Reheat slices at 350°F – no need to reheat the Air Fryer.
  • In the Oven: Reheat under the broiler.
  • On the Stovetop: Place slices on a medium-low heat skillet and add about 1/2 teaspoon water. Cover and heat until the crust is crispy and the cheese is melted; about 6-8 minutes.
  • In the Microwave: Place one or two slices of pizza on a clean paper towel. Place a cup of water to create steam. Cook pizza on high for 30 seconds at a time, or until the cheese is melted.

Tip for Dip!

Make a tasty dip for the crust ends by mixing ¼ cup sour cream with 1 tablespoon of barbecue sauce. Add more or less sauce to taste.
