We Love These Pimento Cheese Sandwiches Because…

  • The filling has a comforting blend of cream cheese and sweet pimentos.
  • Known as the ‘caviar of the South’ pimento cheese is delightfully savory and spicy.
  • The spread is enveloped in white bread, for a soft satisfying bite every time.
  • It has easy to find and affordable ingredients.
ingredients to make pimento cheese sandwich labeled: diced pimentos, parmesan, blue cheese, sharp and mild cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, and dijon mustard.

What’s in a Pimento Cheese Sandwich?

Cheese: Sharp cheddar is your best bet for the boldest flavor, but you can use mild, Velveeta, or even some blue cheese or feta.

Cream Cheese: Whole fat or lite cream cheese adds creamy texture plus blends better and faster if it’s used at room temperature.

Pro Tip

Avoid whipped cream cheese as it won’t bind as well with the rest of the ingredients.

Mayonnaise: Any brand will do. Avoid sandwich spreads like Miracle Whip dressing because they’re too sweet against the cheddar cheese and pimentos.

Bread: This recipe calls for white bread for the authentic golf club recipe, but you can use any bread you like, or even tortillas.

Variations

  • Some like it hot. Try it with ½ -1 diced fresh jalapeno (seeds removed), or a small can of jalapenos, or a splash of Tabasco.
  • Add color and flavor with optional sundried tomatoes or black olives.
  • Serve as a filler for devilled eggs and jalapeno poppers. Make mile-high pimento cheese sandwiches using thick slices of cucumber, tomatoes, or tangy homemade pickles.

How to Make Pimento Cheese Sandwiches

Pimento cheese sandwiches are full of fresh and zesty flavors.

  1. In a large bowl, add all pimento cheese ingredients (recipe below) and mix thoroughly.
  2. Spread cheese from edge to edge equally on 4 slices of bread and top with remaining slices.
  3. Cut on the diagonal and serve.

Pro Tip

For the real “Masters” experience, chill the sandwiches and cut off the crusts before cutting them into diagonals.

Storing Leftover Pimento Cheese

  • Keep pimento cheese separate from bread in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
  • We do not recommend freezing pimento cheese because it will become grainy when thawed due to its high dairy content.
  • Use refrigerated leftovers as a spread on burgers, wraps, or dip served with crackers, chips, or veggies.
