These are the Best Homemade Biscuits Because…
- It’s a simple, foundation recipe that will be on permanent rotation all year long.
- With just a few pantry pantry ingredients, these fluffy Southern-style biscuits are made easily in your kitchen.
- You’ll love biscuit made from scratch and slathered with honey butter, topped with country gravy, or used to sop up beef stew.

Ingredients and Variations
Flour: For the best results, aerate the flour by whisking it in the container before scooping it out to ensure the right amount of flour is measured out.
Baking Powder: Without active baking powder, biscuits won’t rise. Be sure it’s not expired
Butter: Butter provides rich flavor, we prefer unsalted, but any real butter works.
Milk: This is your binder. Whole milk gives a rich flavor to biscuits, but you can use buttermilk, half-and-half, cream, or your favorite non-dairy alternative.
Variations: Match your biscuits to the menu and sprinkle in some seasoning blends like Italian, everything bagel, or a simple sprinkle of parmesan cheese will add extra flavor to biscuits.

How to Make Homemade Biscuits
- Whisk dry ingredients together in a large bowl (recipe below).
- Massage butter into the mixture, pour in milk.
- Add flour, a little at a time until dough is easy to handle.
- Knead dough and roll into 1” thickness.
- Cut out biscuits and bake until golden brown.

Pro Tips for Perfect Biscuits
- You may not need all of the flour listed in the recipe. Use only what is needed to produce the right consistency that is pliable and easy to form.
- Avoid overworking the dough, which can produce flat and dense biscuits.
- No matter if you are using a glass or a biscuit cutter, don’t twist it when cutting the biscuits. Twisting the cutter seals the dough and prevents it from rising into airy layers.
- Brush biscuit tops with milk or an egg wash if desired to produce shiny and golden-brown tops.

Storing Biscuits
Keep leftover homemade biscuits in a covered container at room temperature for up to 4 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat them in the oven covered in foil at 350°F for 5-10 minutes.
