In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
Add butter and with your fingers, massage into the flour.
Pour in milk and mix to combine. If the dough is too sticky, mix in 1 Tablespoon of reserved flour at a time until the dough is no longer sticky and is easy to handle.
Place dough on a lightly floured surface. Pat down dough and fold it over 2-3 times to create layers. Roll dough out to 1 inch thickness.
Cut out 6 biscuits, pressing straight down on the cutter (or glass). Do not twist the cutter or biscuits will not rise properly. Place biscuits in a skillet or on a baking tray.
Bake biscuits for 10 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Remove from the oven and brush add a bit of butter to the tops if desired.
