Ingredients & Variations

Garlic – Use fresh garlic or a tablespoon of minced garlic. For a more subtle garlic flavor, roast the entire head and use the leftovers to make garlic hummus or garlic aioli.

Base – Mayonnaise, yogurt, and olive oil become emulsified to create this rich and flavorful sauce. Any variety of these ingredients will work.

Lemon Juice – Lemon is the acidic component needed to balance out the pungent flavor of garlic and the rich flavors of mayo and olive oil. If lemon juice isn’t available, use half the amount in vinegar (preferably rice vinegar, but any will do). Tame the flavor by adding a little honey or maple syrup.

Seasonings – Fresh parsley adds a pop of color to garlic sauce but dried will also work. Zest up garlic sauce with a dash of lemon pepper seasoning, Italian seasoning, and a dash of red pepper flakes will make it spicy, or choose any combination of herbs and spices that matches the menu!

For A Creamier Version…

Make a thicker sauce by heating it in a small saucepan with ½ cup of heavy whipping cream and ⅓ cup of grated parmesan cheese.

Best Tips & Tricks

  • Freeze in ice cube trays and pop out a cube or two to add to stir fried bok choy, brush over grilled vegetables, or as a base instead of pizza sauce on a homemade pizza crust.
