Ingredients and Flavorings
Ginger root: Widely available at most supermarkets, ginger root (AKA a knob) adds a pungent aroma and flavor to teas, sauces, and baked goods. Dried ginger powder can be used instead but take care not to use too much or it will be too spicy.
Optional Add-Ins: A cinnamon stick adds subtle flavor and doubles as a stir stick. A teaspoon or two of turmeric aids in inflammation and adds an exotic flavor to ginger tea. Powdered green culinary-grade matcha is another healthy addition to ginger tea. Thin slices of orange, lemon, or whole star anise soothe the senses as well as the tummy.
Sweeteners: Honey melts perfectly into ginger tea, but you can use any sweetener you like, including maple syrup, light molasses, or even a simple syrup. Agave or any non-sugar sweetener of your choice are good vegan options.
