Parmesan Garlic Sauce Made from Scratch
- Make this recipe from scratch in minutes with just a few simple steps and basic ingredients for a rich and luxurious sauce.
- The combination of freshly grated Parmesan, garlic, and Italian seasoning creates a bold, savory taste that will be hard to resist.
- It’s a versatile sauce that can be used as a sauce, a topping, or even as a dip for French fries!
- Easily adjust the garlic and seasoning to match your taste and make a sauce that is truly unique.

Your Ingredient Line Up
Butter: Use unsalted butter in this recipe since the parmesan cheese is already salty. Butter provides a deep, comforting richness, and is essential to this recipe.
Seasoning: Garlic adds an aromatic flavor that balances the richness of the Parmesan, while Italian seasoning adds a light, herbal touch. When you make it yourself, you can adjust it any way you like.
Roux: Flour and broth combine with the butter to create a thick paste called a “roux” which acts as the base of the sauce.
Heavy cream: Cream is added to the roux not only for flavor, but to help create a rich and luxurious sauce.
Parmesan Cheese: For the best flavor and melting quality, use freshly grated parmesan cheese. Pre shredded cheese is covered in an anti-caking agent that does not melt well.
Minor Modifications
- Garlic powder can be easier (and quicker) to use than fresh garlic. Consider adding onion powder, paprika, or a little cayenne for a more zesty bite.
- Make this a gluten free recipe using gluten free flour. Or omit the flour and chicken broth altogether, in this case the sauce will need to cook a bit longer in order to thicken.

How to Make Parmesan Garlic Sauce
- Cook garlic and Italian seasonings in melted butter until fragrant (full recipe below).
- Whisk in flour until a paste is formed.
- Slowly whisk in broth and simmer until the sauce is thickened.
- Stir in parmesan cheese and cream and whisk until the cheese is melted. Adjust seasonings to taste.

Possibilities For Parmesan Garlic Sauce
- Brush parmesan garlic sauce over homemade pizza dough, or even as a tasty sauce on a chicken sandwich or burger. Add it to a creamy asparagus pasta recipe.
- This parmesan garlic sauce makes a delicious dip for veggies, breadsticks, sausage balls, chicken nuggets, or buffalo chicken wings.
- Instead of messy BBQ sauce, toss cooked wings in parmesan garlic sauce and pop them under the broiler or drizzle over grilled veggies.

Storing Your Sauce Right
Keep leftover parmesan garlic sauce in a covered container or mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 7 days (3 days if using fresh garlic).
Stir the sauce before reheating it over low heat on the stovetop, or in the microwave at 30-second intervals.
Freeze leftover sauce in zippered bags and thaw overnight in the refrigerator before whisking and reheating.
