Can I Use Quick Cooking Oats Instead?

Old-fashioned oats are the best bet for this recipe but quick oats can be used. Quick oats are cut into smaller pieces which shortens the cooking time and produces a mushier result. If you can, use old-fashioned oats that are whole grain oat kernels and firmer to cook and more nutritious.

Can You Make Oatmeal with Almond Milk?

You sure can! In fact, almost any milk makes will make a rich and creamy oatmeal. Old fashioned oatmeal and almond milk are a perfect combination, but why stop there?

Out of almond milk? Regular milk, rice milk and coconut milk will all do the trick with this recipe. Each will have a slightly different taste, and be equally as delicious!

Chocolate or Vanilla Cherry Oatmeal

For a cherry vanilla oatmeal breakfast recipe, simply substitute regular almond milk for vanilla-flavored almond milk, or use chocolate-flavored almond milk for a fancier chocolate cherry oatmeal.

What Can You Add to Oatmeal with Almond Milk?

When making oatmeal with almond milk why not try dried or fresh cherries in oatmeal? I like to use a good quality cherry pit remover. You can find cherry pitters at Walmart, kitchen specialty stores and even Amazon.

All kinds of fruit and nuts pair well with almond milk because almond milk has such a mild flavor. Mix it up and try a banana, blueberry, apple or strawberry oatmeal with almond milk version. For a super decadent (but still healthy!) breakfast, why not make a dark chocolate almond coconut oatmeal or a cherry pistachio oatmeal?

Pro Tip: Toast nuts in a small saute pan before using to bring out the maximum flavor. Toasting nuts for recipes also keeps them extra crunchy!

How to Cook Oatmeal with Almond Milk

It’s super easy to use almond milk to make oatmeal:

  1. Add the first four ingredients to a medium saucepan and cook for 3 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and add sugar, vanilla, and extract of your choice.
  3. Add garnishes and serve immediately. Enjoy with fruit!

Can You Freeze Cherry Oatmeal With Almond Milk

Oatmeal and almonds are a great way to start a busy day at school or work or wherever!  Sounds too good to be healthy, right? Even better, keep a bowl of cherry almond oatmeal (or whatever variety you prefer) in a covered bowl in the freezer and simply scoop out a bowlful in the morning! Zap in the microwave, add a little more almond milk, Silk almond milk or rice milk and a sprinkling of cinnamon and you have a heart-healthy and hearty breakfast that will power everyone through the day!
