Along with Homemade Pumpkin Seeds, your kiddos will love eating these pumpkin spice donuts after trick or treating on Halloween. Pumpkin donuts are also an excellent dessert for Thanksgiving and even the turkey leftover dinners that follow, like a creamy turkey tetrazzini.

Who doesn’t love Dunkin Donuts’ Pumpkin Spice Donuts and a hot cup of coffee or a PSL (pumpkin spice latte) on a chilly Fall day? Or at the office on Monday morning? We all do! (Your coworkers will love you!)

Even Krispy Kreme can’t make them as good as you can, right? With a couple of alterations, you can convert this recipe into pumpkin muffins. If you love Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkins (donut holes), or you have leftover batter, you can make pumpkin donut holes or pumpkin cake pops for the kids with a silicone donut hole or cake pop mold, found on Amazon.

What Is A Donut Baking Pan?

A donut baking pan is similar to a muffin pan. Typically there are six or twelve donut cavities to fill, but there are other sizes and even singles. They are made of metal or silicone. Most are plain round type donuts, but there are some with fancy patterns on them. You can see the various types of donut pans here on Amazon. Did you know that there are even electric donut bakers?! They’re similar in concept to a waffle iron. Cool, right?

What is the best donut pan? Non-stick metal is my preference. The pans hold up well. They’re easy to handle getting into and out of the oven. The donuts are easy to remove and of course, they are very easy to clean. Some of the non-stick donut pans may require hand wash, so if you are keen to pop the pan in the dishwasher for cleaning, you may prefer silicone.

When I first bought donut baking pans, I couldn’t wait to use them. They’re fun and easy. My hubby and I really like baked donuts, and the kids love them! I have a great baked donut recipe for apple cider donuts, and baked chocolate donuts, but I especially couldn’t wait to make a donut pumpkin flavored!

How to Make Pumpkin Donuts

These really are easy baked pumpkin donuts. Simply:

  1. Preheat the oven and grease a donut pan (or a muffin pan)
  2. Whisk together the dry ingredients. In another bowl, mix together the wet ingredients
  3. Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture one third at a time, mixing well (but don’t overmix)
  4. Scoop mixture into a large zip top bag and cut off the bottom corner. Use this to squeeze the donut mixture into the prepared donut pan (this keeps it clean!)
  5. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes or until donut springs back when you touch it
  6. Remove to a wire rack to allow for cooling

The pumpkin donut glaze recipe comes together in minutes!

  1. Whisk together the ingredients until the glaze is perfectly smooth
  2. Carefully dip the top of each donut into the glaze and return to the wire rack
  3. Don’t forget the sprinkles!

No Donut Pan?

No problem! Pull out the muffin tins, because these can be baked as muffins too! Fill muffin tins about ⅔ full of batter.

  • Mini muffins: bake for 9-12 minutes
  • Standard sized muffins: bake 18-21 minutes

Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

How Long Do Baked Donuts Last?

Baked donuts will last about a week, like any muffin, cookie, or cake will. As long as they are kept in an airtight container like a zip top bag, Stasher bag, or plastic container. Keep them away from extreme heat or light so condensation does not develop in the container!

As you know, I’m a huge pumpkin fan. Pumpkin Energy Balls? Check! Homemade Pumpkin Seeds? Yep. Pumpkin cranberry bread? Yes, please!! Pumpkin corn muffins? Bring ’em on! When I baked these pumpkin spice donuts, it was really hard to let them sit, and actually, I did have one right away (See those bites? That was me :)). Believe it or not, the donuts tasted even better after resting for a day. The family couldn’t wait to get their pumpkin treat the next day, that’s for sure!

Ingredients

Glaze

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease donut pans (with pan release, spray, oil, or butter).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together pumpkin, milk, brown sugar, oil, egg, and vanilla.
  • Add about one third of the flour mixture to the wet mixture and mix well. Add remaining flour mixture, starting with the whisk, and once partially combined, mix with a spatula until well mixed.
  • Divide the batter between the pans, filling half way. I add to a large zip top bag, cut a hole in the corner and squeeze it in to the mold to keep things easy and neat (or use a piping bag).
  • Bake for 12-14 minutes or until donut springs back when touched.
  • Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then gently turn out onto wire rack. Cool completely.

Glaze

  • Whisk together sugar, pumpkin pie spice and 2 ½ Tablespoons of the heavy cream. Add the remaining cream if the mixture needs to be a bit thinner.
  • Dip the top of each donut in the glaze and flip over. Touch up glaze if desired.

Notes

Can be eaten immediately, but I prefer to allow the donuts to rest for 2 hours or overnight (if possible!) like my friend Sandra!

These are delicious! I used unbleached whiole wheat flour, substituted Greek yogurt for oil and they still came out moist, light and fluffy! Thank you!!!
